I gave the advice I did to Laertes because as it says in (1.3.73.) “And they in France of the best rank and station” Because Laertes is going to France he needs to make sure he is able to fit in in a place where “For the apparel oft proclaims the man” (1.3.72.) That is why I told Laertes to buy as much clothes as possible. In also told him he should not be quick to judge and should never pick a fight, but to always hold his own once he is in one. Most importantly though I told him to be true to himself, because doing that will keep him honest to everyone he meets and will not lead him astray from the morally correct path.

As for Ophelia I am wondering a great bit about her and Hamlet, Hamlet has spent a lot of time with Ophelia. I have also heard that Ophelia may have not been conducting herself with the restraint I would like to see out of my daughter. She calls it “Affection” I call it Hamlets attempts on her. Ophelia must be able to see pasts this boys cheap attempts on her womanhood. As I said “Affection! Pooh, you speak like a green girl, Unsifted in such perilous circumstance. Do you believe his “tenders,” as you call them?” (1.3.101-103.) Ophelia is simply being played for physical pleasure not for the love of who she is. Hamlets “promises” to Ophelia are but simple fashion “Ay, “fashion” you may call it. Go to, go to.”(1.3.102.) this further shows hamlets affection for Ophelia is but a short term romp and as her father I cannot allow her to make such a mistake. Ophelia should not waste her time with hamlet as it will only lead to disappointment, heartbreak, and embarrassment.
